This is from a show at Byron’s on 5/20/23. The poster for the show (Mark Gerking’s last) indicates that this was a Sunday show but that doesn’t agree with the calendar which says it was a Saturday. Byron’s own calendar seems to have a glitch on the date. It’s the first time I “fainted” at a show, which is not really accurate since I didn’t lose consciousness (is that a condition for fainting?). I was aware of every moment, the crash through the chairs, the part where I had to struggle to turn on the recorder from my position on the floor, the general hubub among those who were close by, Kerstin’s calm handling, everything. I just couldn’t get off the floor for a while.
Trust me, I was curious about the cause. Not curious enough to ask some doctor, but thought it would be handy to have an explanation nonetheless. Of course I Googled it. Google seemed to want to call it hypotension, sort of the opposite of hypertension. However, I do come under medical supervision from time to time and have never had any blood pressure problems. I had been under some weird emotional stress throughout that week, and had finally escaped to my refuge after first having a big meal, first in days, and just “let down”. That’s my explanation and I’m sticking to it.
The little medley at the end of the show is utterly atypical of what Mark usually does. He’s really versatile like that.
