So………………….
I actually attended Homecoming last year (2025). A year later, I no longer remember the particulars but there was probably a band because one of the events was at Byron’s. I do remember landing in the middle of a lot of people who were FROM Pomeroy who were, um, homecoming.
I do remember that I had some other option and decided to “homecome” whether I was from there or not. That turned out to be the wrong move. Ordinarily, I know everybody in the place, not NOBODY in the place, and as I recall, I left fairly early because that was too weird. Oops.
This time will be a little different.
Like last time, I do know a handful of people who actually live there, but unlike last time I will be one of them. If they’d like to hear the story about how I got there, I will tell anyone who is curious, but if not, I will make something up which is actually real, and tell them “I moved here to write about that”.
I had a late night conversation earlier with a friend who told me “I wish you’d write stuff about Pomeroy”. Yeah, I could do that and become an instant pariah. I kind of like having friends though.
I could also point out that this Substack IS about Pomeroy; it’s just not a society column.
For the time being, let me just be enthusiastic about Nick Dittmeier & The Sawdusters. For some reason, my recordings of the band are in great disarray and there are a couple of missing chunks that I can’t explain, but here’s stuff about Nick if you’re curious:
